My first lecture to the residents at FMSW will be about a holistic approach to treating heart disease. If you are interested in seeing the powerpoint (which refers to the studies to persuade physicians), click here.
The bottom line is that it is not all about cholesterol numbers or even about cholesterol and homocysteine and CRP and LpA and so on, that the heart is in a person, and a broken or lonely heart is at risk just as a heart exposed to tobacco is. Another bottom line is that often there need to be multiple changes made in someone’s life to truly lower their risk of this #1 killer – the diet and exercise changes are easier to maintain if the emotional issues are addressed as well and the right kind of support is developed. For those of you who have known me for more than 4-5 years, you know that I know whereof I speak.
